I need some help in the kitchen!

Hi Gang. Patrick and I are trying on a new lifestyle (we're swingers). No I am kidding. We are not swingers but we have not been eating meat or dairy for the past month as per the Skinny Bitches- a must read bytheway. For the past few weeks I have been cooking for us in a completely different way- using lots of foods I have never used before. I have made a couple of things that have gone straight into the trash (or at least should have but we were starving) and I have made some really delicious food too. Tara has been immensely helpful in telling me what to buy and try and what is gross and not worth it. It occurred to me that maybe more of you have some good recipes and/or tips and recommendations in your repertoire so I thought I would ask. I am looking for any useful ideas for quick evening recipes or some tasty meat and cheese alternatives. I am appreciative of any feedback you all may have.

So it sounds like you need the magic bullet. but anyway, one of my favorite foods is the fake pork roll from the health food store and some grocery stores...there is really only one brand so you cant miss it. cook it like regular pork roll, melt cheese on top (oh wait, you would need to melt vegan cheese) and toast rye bread and WOW - it is delish. years ago Christian tried to fool Mike Stoll and he almost fell for it, and he is perhaps one of the biggest carnevours around. the smell alone makes brutus salivate. it is delish. I'll think of more. I went backwards - I was a veg for the past...16 years or so and ate meat when christian wasa couple of months old. I am now a meat eater! some meat at least. not real pork roll.

Another thought - you might want to buy something in the health food store called Nutritional Yeast - it is for vegans and vegatarians - it is a supplement. it is mainly the B vitamins which i think most people get from red meat. it also has amino acids and protein. i bought it when chloe was a baby and not eating meat. i sprinkled it in some of her food. i dont like the taste but it can be hidden. some people actually like it and sprinkle it on popcorn and stuff. Vegan is tough, everytime i was thinking of a meal it had cheese or dairy...costco has kickass veggie lasagna in the freezer, tastes homemade but it isnt vegan, sorry. i'll keep thinking! tara told me you read a book and switched and i figured it was Fast food Nation, what is this
Skinny Bitch? i've seen it and figured by the cover it was like those shopaholic books.

hey megs. as you know i was a veggie from 2nd grade until 5 yrs ago and got completely corrupted from a pork roll, egg and cheese hung over. then i moved right into bacon, sausage and hot dogs. gross right?! are you looking to eat things that resemble a meaty taste or for hearty dishes that feel complete? are you eating fish?

The book Skinny Bitch is a wolf in sheeps clothing. It totally looks like chick lit on the cover but 5 pages in they are exposed as two die hard vegans and their arguments are compelling. That said we decided to try eating this way for a month and then if we were really miserable we would add foods back in. But we feel really good and for the most part haven't felt deprived at all. I did get a great cookbook called Veganomicon and have been cooking out of that every night. I will definitly try the pork roll. Janine to answer your question it doesn't matter. Anything that tastes good . And no. We are not eating fish right now either, but maybe eventually. I don't want anyone to knock themselves out, but anytime you think of something tasty and veggie share your thoughts with me :o)
